Like the weapon it's named after, the Spear is a straight-flying control driver made for tight lines and accurate placement. It has a comfortable grip for smooth release on any angle. While it's only a 9-speed disc, it provides plenty of distance for new and experienced players alike.
The Platinum blend is made with different ratios of TPU (Thermoplastic Urethane) and a co-polyester TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer). This combo produces a durable disc that is a bit more grippy on the surface than pure TPU. Platinum discs are always solid in color and are slightly less stable than Diamond and more over stable than Suregrip.
As their name implies Gateway is based in St. Louis and has been active in the disc golf community since 1994. When they're not busy help design disc golf courses (the current count is over 90!) they have created a special line of discs including their popular putter the Wizard.
They were the first to develop wide-winged drivers to battle wicked headwinds and currently have over 32 PDGA-approved models available in three plastic blends: Diamond, Platinum and Sure Grip. They've recently started working with hemp polymers which is sure to attract a, uh... um... new market of players.
